A floating speaker for a bit of bathtub music, not a bad idea! Having it connected to a wall-socket while it bobs around… worse.
In a shocking twist, tech company Rydfly is under fire after a user tragically died while using their new Bathtub Speaker. The device, designed to float in water and provide soothing bath-time tunes, was found to have one glaring omission: nowhere did it specify that you shouldn’t plug it in while in use. Alan Stevenson, a 35-year-old music lover, made the fatal mistake of keeping the speaker plugged into the wall while it floated beside him in the bath.
The packaging, featuring serene imagery and promises of “relaxing moments,” neglected to include the key detail that mixing electricity and water is, well, deadly. “We assumed people wouldn’t… do that,” said Marcus Blythe, a visibly uncomfortable Rydfly spokesperson. “But we’ll be updating the instructions to make that crystal clear.”
Stevenson’s family is outraged, with his widow stating, “If they’d just written don’t plug it in while it’s floating, Alan would still be with us.” Rydfly has announced an urgent recall of the Bathtub Speaker and plans to add some basic common sense to their product warnings. In the meantime, users are urged to avoid using the device—especially if plugged in—before someone else’s bath goes from relaxing to electrifying.
